Queer-Affirming Therapy
I offer both individual and couples therapy for LGBTQIA+ adults and can provide referrals for gender non-conforming clients needing medical services or changes to documentation.
More than ever, our culture finds itself confronted with the simple fact that many people’s lived experience, relationships, and sense of self do not match the gender and sexuality boxes culture has been requiring people to live in.
Gender non-conforming people are refusing to accept these restrictions any longer. LGBTQIA+ people are fighting and winning legal and cultural battles every day, despite an onslaught of regressive anti-trans legislation.
Of course, we have so much farther to go. Discrimination, inequality, micro-aggressions, and hate crimes still impact so many lives. The threats of violence faced by transgender women of color in particular are staggering and unacceptable.
You need a therapist who is not only open and affirming, but well informed.
I often work with clients to:
- Find resources for medical transition
- Talk to family, friends, and work colleagues about aspects of identity or upcoming changes
- Figure out how to present and identify when no one identity feels comfortable
- Navigate relationship changes when one or more partners is LGBTQIA+
- Respond to discrimination and find effective self care for dealing with a culture that falls short of affirming.
Many clients decide to work with me when what they want to talk about in therapy is not identity-related, but they want to work with a therapist who is well informed and comfortable with their identity.
I’m happy to partner with you as you take your next step, whatever it may be.
